Bluebelle Park - A Vibrant Springfield Park, Great for Bigs and Littles

Bluebell Park seems to be a Springfield favorite and I can see why. This neighborhood park is tucked off the road, it's clean, has really interesting and fun play structures, a paved walking path, tree shade, drinking fountain and a half basketball court. Not to mention astroturf under the playground area and a super fun color scheme!

We have visted a handful of times. We've always had fun, felt safe and wanted to return! We park at the main entrance on Bluebelle Way, where the official park sign is located. However, there are a total 6 ways to access the park. This park is situated behind residences, so the entrances are long and narrow and kind of inconspicuous. The park had a major renovation back in 2019 so the play structures are pretty new and innovative. Before the overhaul the park only had a swing set and a bark chip path and had a fair share of negative google reviews.

We don't go to any park without my girls beloved Strider balance bike. I can't believe I LOVE these Hot Pink Tennies! The perfect summer nails. Cutest EVER dino Vans.

As you enter the park from Bluebelle Way it's a grand entrance where you get to see the entire park laid out before you. It's an exciting way to enter and right away you're thinking, this place is awesome! The play structures and swings are to the right, with the adjustable half basket ball court just past the playground. There are a couple of metal picnic tables, benches, trashcans and a drinking fountain in this area. There are also some large trees providing some shade to the benches but, in my experience, not the playground. A paved path winds around a large open grassy area. It's a decent length (I should have clocked it! Have you?) and perfect for a toddler stroll or bike ride. My little enjoyed a relaxing stroll in our BOB while my older tot zoomed around on her Strider! We stopped mid way to sit and have a snack, in the middle of the path 😂, under the shade of an ancient Pine tree. We met a nice boy whizzing around on his new birthday scooter! Everyone we run into at this park is friendly. We have seen some kind of daycare group an a couple of different occasions. They are a bit wild but fun none the less.

One of the fun things about this park is that the big kid play structure is full of unique climbers that you won't find at any other parks in town. I liked the way one google reviewer referred to it as, in so many words, a structure that instigates a level of complex thought - in terms of movement throughout the structure. The center rope climbing "bridge" can be climbed in a variety of ways, from simply to spider like! 🤣🕸️ 🕷️ (Speaking of spiders...I seem to always notice jumping spiders on this play structure!!!) Even the monkey bars can be used more like climbers, as I've seen kids climbing over the tops of them. There's also a two piece climbing wall that gets you to the tallest platform and a regular ladder type climber. Spinners always seem to be a big hit! And this park has two! When my boy was crawling I was always looking for playgrounds with astroturf under the play structures. That's actually how we found this park. The swing area is separate and has wood chips.

The shining star of this park has got to be this epic tot spot! The tot structure couldn't be more thought out. It's got everything! Tunnel, slide, ladder, unique numbered peg climber, musical instruments, moveable parts and pieces. You can find numbers, shapes, the alphabet AND EVEN A HOT WHEELS TRACK!!!! 🏎️ What?! Yes, you read that right! It has a hot wheels car track! EPIC! My tots LOVE this tot structure!

This park seems to have been very well thought out. The entire space feels cohesive, inviting, safe... It's unfortunate it doesn't have a restroom because it's really a fabulous park that you could spend a fair amount of time at. We will definitely be back to Bluebelle Park! "Temporary security trailer" to prevent vandalism. Seen on our October 2nd, 2025 visit.

I feel like I should add, we visited the day after I wrote this up to get the video and pics of the hot wheels car on the race track and we noticed they've got a "temporary security camera trailer" in place. The sign read it was to prevent vandalism and protect the park. Funny enough, today I also noticed heavy weed and tabacco smells wafting into the park. As I mentioned and is shown on the map, the park is surrounded by private residences backyards...the neighborhood kind of changes as you drive around the park, as I did today, from not so great to alright. Even so, our visit today was fun with dog walkers and the day care kids also enjoying this great park!

Check out the map below and consider a PARK HOP! Volunteer, Fort and Rob Adams Parks are all in the same neck of the woods. How many can you cross off in ONE DAY?! You may need a pit stop, potty break somewhere in between since NONE of these parks have bathrooms though.

Bluebelle Park is located in East Springfield between Main St. to the north and Jasper Rd. to the south, just before where Bob Straub Parkway becomes the 126, with S. 42nd to the west. See Volunteer Park to the west, Fort Park to the east and Rob Adams south east.
