2950 Wayside Loop Springfield, Oregon 97477 Park Visit: July, 21st 2025 @ 10:15AM-12:45PM

Robin Park is a hidden gem! It's tucked away in the sweetest, calmest little neighborhood and you'd NEVER guess it was there. How many times I've roundabouted by Wayside Loop and never even second glanced at it. It's off the roundabout on Pionerr Parkway that takes you to the hospital or to Target. Now, I always second glance and day dream about visiting this picturesque little slice of Springfield paradise.
In the Google reviews for Robin park you'll find it described as 'sweet, quiet, clean, a gem'. And that's all spot on. This really is one of the sweetest little Springfield Gems 💎 we've visited. The vibe here is laid back, peaceful and friendly. When we were there multiple kids came, a handful of adults weaved in and out- some with coffee in hand coming straight outta their own back gates to greet neighbors. Well mannered dogs played off leash and kids of a range of ages laughed and played together.
We parked right in front of the park's main entrance, across the street, where the park sign is showing the date of 1956. This is another spot that certainly has that comfy, old school, "Pleasantville" vibe. I don't know if its the lush mature landscape, gorgeous old growth trees, the quintessential neighborhood or an inherent essence of history that only being a place of community since 1956 could generate, but it's sweet none the less. 💚

Wayside Loop is, believe it or not, a loop. There are no sidewalks which makes parking a bit awkward. The street is somewhat narrow and there are no designated parking spots. This is probably the least desirable feature of this park, especially on trash day. But, it's not that big of a deal. There's kind of a carve out space across the street from the main entrance. To me it just feels a little invasive parking right smack in the front of someone's home, especially when there is no side walk. But it's fine. The park is in the middle of the loop, so all the home's back yards on that side of the street face the park; with many of them having gates for easy park access. The homes are well kept and the yards are totally fenced. It feels very safe. There are three additional ways to access the park down narrow unmarked paths between houses.

We visited this park in July when everything was green and full and just beautiful! Since then, we visited again in late winter and it did have a bit a different vibe with all the leaves gone and greenery trimmed back. I can't wait to visit again this summer when things are so green and beautiful. When you enter the park there's a fence but no gate. First thing I noticed, of course, is the giant amazing tree. 🌳 The play structure is right there, getting some shade from said tree. There's a bench, trash can, doggy bag station, bike rack and a really nice and clean sand pit with a scooper. 🏰
We had a great little Meet-Up here. Of course we brought the Strider and the BOB, best pack mule ever. 🤣 Plus, peace of mind knowing I can lock my little man in if need be. Our friend was excited to be totin' her new BOGG bag, which definitely inspired me to steal my mother's knock off Costco one!!! 🤣 Are you kidding me!? These things are GREAT! So easy to pack it all in, no worries about messes or water. They really are the perfect summer bag. Of course we always come with our water resistant picnic blanket. We like to have lunch in the park on our Meet-Up days and I CAN NOT rave enough about this awesome spill proof stainless steel bento box. This one actually keeps the food in the different compartments seperate no matter how much you bounce it around!!! I have a rule in my home. To-go cups stay at the door. I refuse to scramble around looking for water cups every time we are ready to leave the house. These stainless steel kids cups are easy for my kids to use and pretttttty much spill proof! Although, still best ever are the Tommee Tippee ones. Just a bummer they are plastic.
The playground has a wood chip ground cover. It's a small structure likely designed for kids a bit older. Monkey bars, curly slide, firemen's pole, cool web climber... During this trip the slide was a huge hit. Us mamas sat back in the shade under the beautiful old giant of a tree and the kids played on this slide forever. 🛝 You'll also find a small spinner, baby swings and big kids swings on the playground.

Past the play ground and sand pit is basketball court. 🏀 Unfortunatley, the hoop isn't adjustable. There is a wooden picnic table in this areas as well as what I assumed was a handball backstop. Does any play handball anymore? However, I heard another Mama refer to it as a chalk board. There was chalk drawings on it when we were there so that makes sense too. Anyway, it's one of, I believe only TWO parks in Springfield that have this feature, a handball backstop - if that's what it is! The other is Page Park - well actually the Page Elementary but the school playground is accessible outside of school hours from Page Park. Keep an eye out 👀 for my review on that unique little spot!
Where the concrete ends the green, green grass spreads out. Way out. This is where you really notice all the backyards that meet the park and will find those hidden away alternative access points. The grass is beautiful, level and we had a blast running all about.

This park truly is a Springfield Gem. 💎 I'll definitely be hosting another Springfield [Crunchy-ish] Mamas Meet-Up here this summer! I hope you can join us sometime.
