Mod Podge Book Marks - The Sweetest Home Made Gift

This project requires a span of about 6 days. We let the flowers and leaves press for three days. We let our painted "fronts" dry over night. The front mod podge application dried overnight and so did the back. I like doing crafts like this with my little because it keeps her intested in the activity when we just work on it in short spurts. It also builds in some anitipation and patience as well as instilling in her that, some times, good things take time to come together.

Step One:

Collect Flowers and leaves. Press them between parchment paper (did you know Reynolds is making an unbleached one!?) in a big book. Wait a few days...

Step Two:

Get an 8.5 X 11" piece of card

stock paper in whatever color you'd like. We used "cardboard" color. I like using browns and off whites in my crafts and card making so this is a great pack with a variety of warms brown tones.

Using a straight edge paper cutter, cut 5 bookmarks out from the card stock sheet on the long side. You'll end up with 5 book marks roughly 2.5" X 8.5".

The Fiskars SureCut Deluxe Paper Trimmer is by far my favorite mini paper cutter. This particular one is great because it has a hidden swing out arm that extends your leveled

measuring surface up to 15".

Perfect for the larger scrapbooking papers.

Step Three:

Paint one side of the card stock. We like to use Crayola's Washable Project Paint. We LOVE the glitter pack and the fun NEON colors! It really is washable and easy to clean up. Although, the glitter is a bit tougher to get rid of, still - not so bad we don't use them. They are so fun! I just buy cheapy brushes for the kids and use plastic egg cartons for the paint. There is this convenient NO SPILL set though, that comes with cups with lids and brushes .

Step Four:

Glue the painted card stock onto decorative scrap book paper. There is never a shortage of glue sticks in our house! They make a great stocking stuffer! I like the CraftBond but I think the Disappearing Purple is easier for my girl to use. Once it's glued down then cut to fit. I find this method makes for a more perfect fit rather than trying to cut something to fit first.

Step Five:

Apply glue to the entire painted side. Arrange and stick your pressed flowers and leaves down. We also added a few mini photographs. Once you've got it laid out and stuck the way you'd like, use a paintbrush to apply a generous layer of Mod Podge (you can get a gloss finish or a matte finish, we used gloss) across the entire front side of the your book mark. Let dry over night...

Step Six:

Mod Podge the back side. It's a good idea to hit the edges also. Let dry over night...

Step Seven:

Use a hole punch to create a hole near the top of your book mark for the ribbon. Cut a piece of ribbon about 4" long. Fold it in half and stick it through your hole. take the two end pieces and thread them through the looped ribbon you've just stuck through the hole. Pull it tought.

Dun, dun, dun! You've done it! You've created a one of a kind, keep sake gift! Good work.

We made these for Mother's Day and gave them to all the Nanas.

I got one too. I love mine so much.
